Mr. Lewke:
I have some wonderful news for you.
A
couple weeks ago, our Curators opened an unmarked crate in our backlog section. The crate had no paperwork attached to the
exterior to indicate where it had come from. However, when opened, we discovered that it came from the Navy Inactive Fleet.
We also found a nice surprise, the ship's bell from the USS SAN DIEGO (AFS-6). Regrettably, there were no further items from
the AFS-6 in the crate, but staff continues to keep an eye out for other items.
I have attached a photograph of the
bell for you.
